1.  What is the Redemption Grace Period?

When a domain name expires and is deleted by a Registrar, such as Stargate, VeriSign GRS sets the domain name to a Redemption status. It will remain in this status for 30 calendar days unless the Restore command is issued by the Registrar who deleted it. The Registrar is only allowed to restore the domain for the previous owner. Domains in th RGP will not be published to the zone file and will cease to resolve.

2.  Why does the Registry put every deleted domain into the Redemption Grace Period?

The RGP is designed to hold a domain for 30 days after being deleted so that only the previous owner of the domain may restore it in case they did not mean for it to lapse. This is the Registrys way of guaranteeing that the previous owner does not lose their domain for 30 days.

3.  How do I get my domain out of redemption?

If your domain was registered with Stargate before it expired, you can download our Redemption form, fill it out, and fax it to us.

4.  What is the cost to restore my domain name and how is that fee calculated?

The redemption cost is currently $149.95 USD. This fee is based on our cost from the Registry, the one year renewal that is included, and the fact that all redemption requests need to be processed manually.

5.  If I restore my domain, will my site and/or e-mail start working as it had before it expired?

Yes, after your name servers repropagate.

6.  Once I have faxed my redemption form to you, how long until my website and/or e-mail starts working again?

We will process your Redemption form the same business day that it is received. Once your domain is restored, you have to wait for the name servers to repropagate, which can take up to 24 hours.

7.  Do I have to pay the redemption fee to get this name again?

No, you can wait 35 days from the day it went into redemption and the Registry will release the domain back into the general pool at which time anyone can register it with any Registrar they choose.

8.  Can I transfer my domain to another Registrar while my domain is in the RGP?

No, while a domain is in RGP it can only be restored by the Registrar who deleted it for the previous owner.
