1.  What is URL forwarding?

URL forwarding allows you to point your domain name to any URL, such as a free hosting service or another domain name that you have hosted somewhere.

2.  How long does it take for URL forwarding to be activated?

Normal activation time is 24-72 hours.

3.  What is the URL Redirect option located in the URL Forwarding section?

The URL Redirect option lets you take full advantage of your web page's Meta Tag information. When you use the URL Redirect option you will lose the masking and cloaking feature of URL Forwarding. In addition when you use the URL Redirect option your source code will be able to be viewed.

4.  What is the URL Frames option located in the URL Forwarding section?

The URL Frames option lets you take full advantage of the masking and cloaking feature. When you use the URL Frames option you will lose your web page's Meta Tag information. In addition when you use the URL Frames option your source code will not be able to be viewed.

5.  How do I set up my URL forwarding?

You will need to login to your account control panel. Once logged in select the domain name that you wish to make a change to from the pull down list. Click the Go button. Click on the tab labeled URL Forwarding. Now look for the section labeled URL Forwarding. Enter in the web address that you want to forward your domain name to. Then select URL Frame from the pull down list if you wish to use the cloaking and masking feature, or select URL Redirect if you wish to use Meta Tags (you will loose the cloaking & masking with this option). Click the Forward URL button; this will put the request in for your FREE URL Forwarding to be activated.

6.  Does Stargate place banner ads or pop-ups on URL forwarding?

No, Stargate does not use banner ads or pop-ups.

7.  What is masking and cloaking?

Masking/cloaking allows the URL forwarding to be completely transparent. When you type your newly registered domain into the address bar of your browser, it looks like www.yourdomain.com rather than www.freewebhost/membername/memberdirectory.

8.  Can I use URL forwarding if the DNS are not Stargate's?

No. If you wish to use our Free URL forwarding, the domain name servers(DNS) must point to Stargate DNS.

9.  How do I set up URL Forwarding if I am on a hosting plan?

You can set up URL Forwarding manually by adding a few files that will redirect your site to a specified URL. You will first need to download the following zip file at http://www.stargate.com/us/url.zip and extract it. Then you will need to edit the URLforward.txt file to where you want the forwarding to point. Finally you can upload the needed files to the wwwroot folder in your web space. From there, your URL Forwarding will work instantly.
